Wonderful old Japanese miniature Noh mask, each small mask has been mounted on a red velvet shadowbox like frame. I’m not sure how it is mounted, the mask does have a little bit of wiggle, so I do know that they are not glued around the edges. Each mask is a creamy painted finish with black for the hair and a deep burgundy for the lips. There are small holes on the sides, where a string would have gone through for the mast, small holes for each eye, each nostril. These are incredibly captivating pieces and bring a layer of interest to your decor. the frame is a wooden Guild painted frame that has black paint between the scrolling gold, a metal wire on the back makes it ready to hang.
14 inches wide by 12 inches tall by 1.5 inches deep framed.
Each mask is 3 inches long by 2 inches wide by .75 inches deep.
Masks have not been examined out of the frame
One mask has a chip to the underside that is visible on the top of its head, see photo. There are scuffs to the surface with one mask having what seems to be an ink pen mark on it’s forehead and nose. There is an accumulation of dust that we have left, so not to hurt the surface of each mask. There may be a few naturally occurring fissure in the paint surface of the mask, and perhaps some minor loss of paint where these masks have been handled previously. The frame is in nice condition and has some scuffs to the edge to the gilt
